2018 Youth to Washington Contest

FAST FACTS: 

WHAT:  Free Trip to Washington DC -Complements of WIEC
WHO:  High school sophomore, junior or senior whose parents are active members of WIEC
WHEN:  June 8-15, 2018
WHY:   Why NOT?  Really, it is so students can learn about American and rural electric history, as well as state and federal government. Plus, it’s a great chance to meet new people and see new things – free of charge!
HOW:  Students must enter the contest by completing a 2018 Web quiz , and a  2018 Application,  Deadline for entry is February 15, 2018.  For complete rules, 2018 rules.

It’s THAT easy!

You will see everything from the Supreme Court to Gettysburg on the Youth Tour trip sponsored by your local cooperative. Contact your cooperative for information about the 2015 Illinois Electric and Telephone Co-op Youth Day and Youth to Washington Tour programs.

You will see everything from the Supreme Court to Gettysburg on the Youth Tour trip sponsored by WIEC. Contact WIEC for information or your High School guidance counselor  about the 2018 Illinois Electric and Telephone Co-op Youth Day and Youth to Washington Tour programs.

The WIEC winner will join about 50 other Illinois high school students in Washington during the week of June 8, 2018.  In past years, students met with representatives in the House and Senate, visited Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Mt. Vernon, the World War II Memorial, the U.S. Memorial Holocaust Museum, and even danced the night away on a river boat cruise on the Potomac River.

As part of the contest, WIEC will award the top six entrants an all-expense paid trip to Springfield, IL as part of the Youth Day in Springfield to visit the Illinois State Capitol on April 18,2018 and see state government in action. One of those six students will be awarded the trip to Washington, D.C.
