Brian Buss, son of Mark and Celia Buss, Bowen, won this year’s Illinois
Electric Cooperatives Memorial Scholarship, a $1,250 scholarship that is
presented to the son or daughter of a co-op member.
There
are six other scholarships given out each year to the sons and daughters
of electric co-op members. The Busses are members of Western Illinois
Electrical Coop. This year 269 students competed for the scholarships.
They were judged on grade-point average, college entrance exam scores,
work and volunteer experience, school and civic activities and a short
essay demonstrating their knowledge of energy cooperatives.
General
Manager of Western Illinois Electrical Coop Paul Dion, “The employees
and board members of our cooperative all live and work here in this area,
and all of us have a vested interest in the future of our children. This
scholarship is just one small way we can help make a difference for a
student like Brian.”
