 Y2W Winner Announced

Kortney Freeman,

Carthage, IL

2007 Y2W Winner

WIEC is pleased to announce the 2007 Y2W winner is Kortney Freeman, daughter of Tony and Kelly Freeman, Carthage and Warren and Kim Johnson, also of Carthage.  Kortney will be a senior at Illini West High School in Carthage.

Kortney joined about 50 other Illinois high school students who descended on Washington during the week of June 8-15, 2007.   During the time in D.C., students learned about American and rural electric history, as well as state and federal government. They visited representatives in the House and Senate, and took in an impressive list of historic sites, such as Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, the World War II Memorial, the U.S. Memorial Holocaust Museum, and even visited the White House.

As part of the contest, WIEC awarded the two  entrants an all-expense trip to Springfield, IL as part of the Youth Day in Springfield to visit the Illinois State Capitol on March 28, 2007.   They saw state government in action.  The winners of this trip were Kortney Freeman and Cassie Folkerts, daughter of Ed and Sandy Folkerts of Carthage.
